…and I’m scared!

Why am I scared? Well, I’ve got a friend who completed a 52 Week Project a little while ago, but he mentioned that as the weeks went by it just got harder and harder to come up with things to shoot. So my fear was that I wouldn’t be able to come up with enough to ideas to see through til the end, and so was wanting to have 52 ideas before starting. But all that did was overwhelm me and made me hold back even longer on starting. When I mentioned to a close friend of mine that I was thinking of doing this, she egged me on like she always does and gave me more confidence to finally follow through with this. Even though her encouragement gave me more confidence within myself, I have to admit, I was still a bit scared to start, especially when I only have 3 items on my list! So I decided to give myself a starting date, 1st January 2012, and I’m proud to say I actually stuck to it.

This is my first one of the year…

For the past few weeks I had been racking my brain trying to think of how to take the very first shot, what pose to do and where. I was actually considering taking a mug type shot, you know those terrible passport photos you have to put up with for 10 years! But that’s not really how I wanted to start off my project. And then it came to me, only a couple of days ago… I had mentioned that I prefer being behind a camera. So I thought, why not show myself, but at the same time, hide, and what better way to do that than to cover my face with my hands. So I started trying to come up with poses in my bathroom mirror! I was intending on using both my hands to cover my face and disclose one of my eyes through a gap, but then figured I needed one hand to control the remote shutter. In the end, what you see above is what I came up with.

I don’t plan on blogging every single portrait that I take. Actually, I think this one here is going to be the only one I’ll be blogging about. If you’d like to see my self-portrait shots, please checkout my “Self-Portrait” Flickr page where I plan on adding all my photos to.

The waves were huge, and the crashing splashes they made as they hit the rocks was awesome. Water was spraying everywhere because of the wind. It really was fantastic to see.

Because it was a school night my friend and I were trying to figure out all day whether we should go through with the shoot because the weather was looking like it was going to be terrible. In the end we decided to just go for it, and you know what, I’m so glad I did.

It was crazy seeing people going for a dip in the pool while everyone else was shivering and trying to warm themselves from the cold

This is most probably going to be my last post for the year of 2011. So I’m going to wish everyone now a very happy new year!!! I hope you all rock on during the night while you celebrate the new year that is to come!

Due to being busy with work, as well as other photos that required higher priority, I haven’t been able to finally get to editing everything else until now – boy I love holiday breaks! So keep an eye out for more shots being posted over the next few days.

I had the opportunity to photograph one of my workmate’s kids a couple of weeks ago. It was so much fun. According to her daughter, I’m the craziest person she’s ever met! hehe

I’m so envious of my friend’s location – you wouldn’t believe it, but all the photos were taken right next to her house! I love how it looks like she’s living out in the wilderness. Downside… THE BUGS! We all got bit by mosquitoes or had spiders crawling over us.

I discovered that no matter how old the kid, or whether they’re a girl or a boy, show them you have a bubble blower and that’s what they want to use as their prop!

I also got to take a few family shots. Grandma is so cute. I managed to convince her to stick her tongue out in a photo with the kids! But I’m going to leave that image for the family’s eyes only

The kids have grown so much since the last time I saw them which was a year ago now. I can’t believe how fast kids grow – gosh, I feel so old saying that! I can’t wait to see how different they look when next years round of photos happen again

It was such a big day for her – she had to take a little nap during it. However, her nap didn’t last for very long because she was the centre of attention again before you knew it!

When she was brought outside for a bit of a breather, all she wanted to do was go back in to join the party once again.

She’s such a well behaved, curious little girl. You honestly cannot help but smile at her, or laugh when she laughs. She’s absolutely adorable!

Her grandma was a dancing queen! I wouldn’t be surprised if she could dance for dance non stop! It was awesome watching her

This is the first Macedonian Christening I’ve been to. It was amazing to see how extravagant it was compared to others I have gone to.

Marija and Tom, thank you for letting me share this day with you. I hope we get to work with each other again in the future.

My friend’s daughter celebrated her 8th birthday a couple of weeks ago by holding a jewellery party for her and her little friends.

All the girls had so much fun trying to come up with things to make – they got so excited as soon as they saw all the colourful beads. It was so cute!

The birthday girl told her friends that I’m sneaky with the camera, so there were a few who kept trying to hide whenever they noticed the camera pointed in their direction! But on the other end of that, there were a few girls who just wanted to keep on posing!

The afternoon with them was so much fun. They were all cheeky in their own way. I loved seeing all the different personalities, from quiet and shy to bold and strong – I found it amazing to see.

The shoot was done in our favourite run down building, The Dunlop Factory – believe me when I say that we did try to find another place! However, other places just don’t seem up to our standards – not enough graffiti and nothing really left behind. The thing that makes The Dunlop Factory so great is that, as Luke put, it looks like everyone ran out immediately due to some threat fast approaching
It rained the day before, so we were left with a few puddles here and there, which made for great reflections.

So why do I call her the girl with many faces? Well, with a slight turn of her head or a pout of her lips, she’d transform from Elizabeth to looking a bit like Jessica Rabbit (too bad she didn’t have a red dress!), and at other times even looking a bit like Megan Fox! Elizabeth truly is a beautiful girl

We all had so much fun – goofing around and cracking jokes. Would love to do another shoot with this girl at least one more time before she heads back home.
